Winter Wonderland 01.2014

Oh, winter, how I have come to love thee. Your beautiful crystal flakes fall from the sky in silent stealth.  The ground is coated with a blanket of beautiful, thick, icy, frosting.  You sparkle like a million tiny diamonds when the sun finally peeks out through those dark ominous clouds and kisses the fresh powder with it's warm, soft light.  Sometimes, we seek shelter from your whipping winds and harsh, biting cold.  We hide inside with our hot cocoa and fluffy sweaters.  Finding crafts, movies and games to fill the cold long hours...
In our cozy abode, as we pass the hours, I sometimes stop to admire something more incredible than the most beautiful of any glistening snow scene. My babies.  I notice the way her hair falls on her face as she concentrates, I notice the way his eyelashes are so thick and dark against his perfect olive cheeks.
 Perfection.
I watch as he so meticulously coats his project with glitter, making sure it's perfect.  All the while not knowing how perfect they all are to me.  As unique as each beautiful snowflake, so are you.  Unique and so beautiful in your own way.  Each of you bringing a special spirit and joy to our family, that nobody else could bring.
But, sometimes we brave your bitter conditions and welcome your giant fluffy clusters falling from the sky with our sleds and snow coats.  Snowballs fly and giggles ring out through the sharp, crisp air, memories are made and fun is had.
 Smiles from ear to ear...
 Spontaneous delight.
Shrieks of sheer excitement as you smooth out your track and take the sled further than before.
The cold kisses their cheeks and I notice how grown up she looks all of a sudden.
I must have blinked because time is flying.  Your smiles make my heart so happy I think it might burst at the seams...
Yes, winter.  Your beauty has made me so critically aware of my blessings.  My heart is full of gratitude for a warm home, provided by a loving husband and father to my children. For my children, for the opportunity and privilege I have been blessed with to be their Mom.  So, thank you winter.  I am thankful for you.
